Selsey RNLI Fundraising Gig Postponed Amid Safety Concerns

A charity performance at Selsey Lifeboat Station has been postponed amid concerns for the safety of RNLI volunteers.

The Selsey Shantymen had been due to perform at the station on Sunday 20th September but announced the event would no longer go ahead following discussions with the RNLI. It is expected to be rearranged later this year.

The decision follows threats directed at RNLI crews after volunteers rescued 120 migrants in the Channel and brought them ashore at a Portsmouth marina.

Names, home addresses and photographs of crew members were subsequently shared online by activists, with some posts describing them as "traitors".

Sussex Police says it is working with the RNLI over the safety of volunteers and is examining social media posts to establish whether any criminal offences have been committed.

The Selsey Shantymen regularly perform to raise money for charities in the local area.
