MP Launches '29 For '29' Campaign To Shape Bognor Regis Ahead Of Centenary

Residents are being invited to help shape the future of Bognor Regis, with MP Alison Griffiths launching a new campaign to identify 29 local priorities ahead of the town's royal centenary in 2029.

The '29 for '29' campaign is asking people to submit practical ideas for improvements they would like to see across the town.

A public vote will then decide the final list of 29 ambitions that the MP says she will champion over the next three years.

The initiative follows recent national media coverage of a Which? survey that once again ranked Bognor Regis at the bottom of its list of British seaside towns.

On 26th July 2029, it will be 100 years since King George V granted Bognor the royal suffix "Regis" after recovering there from illness.

Residents are being encouraged to suggest realistic projects that could make a visible difference to the town. Ideas could include more benches and bins, improved lighting, better signage, extra planting, accessibility improvements, safer pedestrian crossings, repaired street furniture, cleaner public spaces, new play equipment or enhancements to the seafront and town centre.

Alison Griffiths MP said:

"I love Bognor Regis, and I do not believe the recent headlines capture the town that residents, businesses and regular visitors know.

"There is a great deal here that deserves to be celebrated. There are also places where practical improvements are needed, and we should be confident enough to say so."

She said the campaign would allow local people to decide which improvements should become her priorities ahead of the centenary celebrations.

The final 29 projects will be used to guide her work with the Bognor Regis Town Centre Action Group, councils, businesses and community organisations, as she seeks funding and support to bring the ideas forward.

While she said she could not guarantee every project would be completed by July 2029, Alison pledged to keep residents updated on progress and continue pressing organisations to deliver the improvements.

The Bognor Regis Town Centre Action Group was formed following a meeting involving local businesses, councils, Sussex Police and community partners in May 2025. The group works to improve safety, the appearance of the town centre and the experience of people who live, work and visit the area.

Residents have until 31st August to submit their suggestions. Duplicate ideas will be combined before eligible proposals go to a public vote in September.

The final 29 ambitions will be announced on 1st October before being presented to the Town Centre Action Group and other organisations to help shape future improvements in the lead-up to the centenary.
