Water Restored At Gatwick After Major Outage Causes Widespread Disruption
Water supplies have been restored across Gatwick Airport after a major outage caused widespread disruption for passengers on Sunday.
Running water was lost in both terminals following a power failure at SES Water's Bough Beech treatment works, forcing the closure of many restaurants, bars and toilet facilities.
Passengers also faced long queues for the toilets that remained open.
SES Water said the power issue had been resolved on Sunday, although it warned it would take time for the network to fully return to normal due to the complexity of the incident.
Gatwick confirmed later that evening that water had returned to the "vast majority" of the airport campus.
Despite the disruption, the airport said no flights were cancelled as a result of the outage, although some services experienced delays.
Staff handed out bottled water, deployed additional support teams across both terminals and worked to reopen facilities as quickly as possible.
Passengers travelling through Gatwick on Monday are advised to check with their airline for the latest travel information.
