Fire Cadets from West Sussex Fire & Rescue Service have completed a 16-mile coastal walk from Worthing Pier to Bognor Regis Pier in support of the Fire Fighters Charity.

This year’s challenge brought together current cadets and former participants from last year’s event, who have since progressed into Young Leader roles.

The sponsored walk formed part of a wider UK Fire Cadets initiative raising funds for the Fire Fighters Charity, which supports the health and wellbeing of serving and retired firefighters and their families.

Setting off on Saturday 2 May, the group completed the demanding route with support from fire service staff and volunteers, who joined them along the way.

During the walk, the cadets stopped at the Fire Fighters Charity headquarters in Littlehampton for refreshments before continuing their journey.

West Sussex Fire & Rescue Service’s Targeted Education Team Leader, Kate Taylor, praised the group’s efforts, highlighting their resilience and teamwork — particularly after they encountered heavy rain towards the end of the challenge.

She said:

“Their resilience, teamwork and commitment to supporting the Fire Fighters Charity is exceptional.”

The Fire Cadets programme, based at Bognor Fire Station, gives young people aged 13 to 17 the opportunity to develop life skills through activities within the fire service and local community.
