Work on a new active travel scheme along the A259 between Hove and Portslade is set to begin later this year, according to Brighton & Hove City Council.
The project covers the seafront route between Fourth Avenue and the city’s western boundary, and aims to improve facilities for cyclists, pedestrians and road users.
Plans include a separate two-way cycle lane, upgraded pavements and bus stops, improved crossings and junctions, as well as new loading areas and disabled parking bays.
The council says changes were made following feedback received during a public consultation in 2025 and a Traffic Regulation Order consultation earlier this year.
Councillor Trevor Muten said:
"We've listened carefully to the feedback and comments and made changes to ensure the scheme works for everyone."
Detailed design work is continuing this month, before the process of appointing a contractor begins.
Construction is expected to start after the school summer holidays.
The council previously said it secured £4.3 million in government funding, alongside £2.7 million of council funding, to deliver the project.
